Color!

This is the first page of another book I've been working on which is now about half finished. I'm hoping it will one day make its way out of the cupboard of unfinished projects. Click on the image to embiggen.

The Things in Ted's Head

These are the first few pages of "The Things in Ted's Head", a children's book I was working on a couple of years ago. I pretty much finished it and showed it to a few agents but they didn't like that the illustrations were black and white. I thought about coloring it, but never got around to it as I had to start designing and drawing the "Flanimals Pop-Up" book. Its been buried in my cupboard of unfinished projects, which has become a very large cupboard indeed. Anyway, I still like it so here's the first few pages for anyone who's interested. Click on an image to see a larger version.

Just got back from a Thanksgiving holiday with friends on Shelter Island, New York. Did a few sketches of local wildlife I spotted which I'll post over the next few days.

Flanimals Artwork

Etsy: Your place to buy & sell all things handmade
RobSteen.etsy.com

I've added a few pieces of original Flanimals artwork to the Etsy shop. These are from the series of cards we did for Oxfam this year. There's a Clunge Ambler, Plamglotis and a Spleg. Something for everyone.

Self Destructive Tendencies

On a completely unrelated note to the drawing above, I saw A CAMP last night at Le Poisson Rouge in New York. One of the best shows I've seen in a very long time.

Babylon 1

I've drawn a lot of these things. This was the very first one. They got much more complex as I went on. Stopped drawing them now as I think they were sending me a bit mad.

Here's a Sparrow I drew this summer while sitting in Central Park.

Here he is. The fish that started it all. Still one of my favourites.

Things to Make and Do

So, I've made a Zazzle shop. You can now buy T-Shirts, Mugs, Postcards and Stamps featuring some of the artwork from this blog. Here's a few of the things below or follow the link to see them all. Who wouldn't love to receive a present of a nice fish t-shirt or vulture mug? Quite a lot of people probably.

A Bit Different...

Been really busy the last few days so no time for sketches. Here's something I did last week. Toastboy! I like his blank expression that seems happy yet sad at the same time. "Please don't eat me!" he's trying to say. But you have to eat him.

Halloween

This is my cover that was featured on Covered blog for Halloween week. It's my version of Black Cat #50 from 1954 by Lee Elias. You can see the original here. Really enjoyed doing this. I'll probably have a go at another one soon.

Up on the Roof

This was a pencil sketch I did a few years ago of a dream I had and then put it in a draw and forgot about it. I decided to finish it yesterday. I think I preferred it as it was. Oh well. I still find him really disturbing though. Hope to never see him again.

Bletchling

When I started this blog I said to myself I wouldn't put any Flanimals drawings up here. But, what the hell. So, just in case anyone has arrived here looking for Flanimals, here's one I did last night. It's a slightly more extreme version of a Bletchling, the most hated of all creatures. If you'd like to see more of this magnificent beast, he appears in the new Flanimals Pop-Up book which is out now. Purchasing a copy will allow me to spend even more time sitting around drawing fish.

This is an unfinished piece I was going to submit to the Covered blog but I decided it was too much like the original. It's a reinterpretation of the cover of The Demon #13 by Jack Kirby. I may try again, but probably with a different cover.

Here's a sketch of a tree. This tree is in Central Park. It is not a particularly special or interesting tree but just happened to be the one I was sitting in front of.
